THE FASCINATING VILLAGE OF EMSWORTH was, in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the principal port of Chichester Harbour, By 1900 the Emsworth shipbuilder and shipowner J.D. Foster (1858-1940) had a fleet of 13 large oyster smacks at sea; his ship, The ECHO, which forms the logo of our Trust, was the largest sailing fishing vessel ever to work out of any English port. Although still a fishing port, Emsworth is now better known as a popular sailing centre. .
